Halloween Makeup Series: Katniss Everdeen

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

Hello again. This week I decided to recreate a Hunger Games look. Specifically, this look from the Vanity Fair shoot with the cast. I had a lot of fun attempting to morph into Katniss, especially now that the Hunger Games line is out for CoverGirl. I even made the bejeweled hair pieces with some feathers and rhinestones. Super easy! Also note the milkmaid braid. That was a challenge. And...I put fire in my pictures. I'm quite proud of that so take note.

Let the Games begin:

More after the jump!

Face:
  1. Blend a primer onto your face.
  2. Apply an HD Foundation. (I used the same one that was used on Jennifer Lawrence.)
  3. Conceal under the eyes and any spots.
  4. Apply a medium coverage powder all over the face.
  5. Contour, contour, contour! Easy trick here: Draw a 3-shape on your face. Start on the sides of the forehead and drag the brush down the side of your face to the cheekbones and underneath before finally ending underneath the jawline. Repeat this shape until you gradually build up the color you desire.
  6. Apply a bright pink blusher on the apples of your cheeks and drag it out to the sides. Gradually build color. If you need to control the amount on your brush, after dipping the brush into the color buff some off onto the back of your hand. Then apply to your cheeks.
  7. Apply a powder highlighter or shimmery eyeshadow above the blush and down the center of your face (center of forehead, bridge of nose, center of chin).
Eyes:
  1. Apply a primer from your lash line to brows as well as underneath the lower lashes.
  2. Put scotch tape at an angle starting from the corner of the eye and bringing it out to the side of the face.
  3. Using a shadow pencil (I highly recommend this CoverGirl/Hunger Games shade) draw a dramatic cat-eye shape. Be sure you star out thick and bold and gradually shrink the shape as you get to the end of your eye--a flick! Go all the way to the tape and out some! Bring the same color right above the inner corner. Creating a shadow of sorts.
  4. Take a deep gray shadow and blend it into the outer half of your shape. Blend it above the flick a little to create an ombre-ish thing. Haha. Also bring this color fairly close to the brows. I'd say centimeter away from your actual brow. Bring it even higher as you blend closer towards the inner corner of your eyes.
  5. Now take an even darker gray...almost black...and apply that on the outer corners and blend it out into the gray. Do the same thing with the black as you did the gray when you get close to the tape.
  6. Satisfyingly, peel off the tape. Magic.
  7. Now, grab a clean brush and take a shimmery nude and apply that underneath the brow and in the inner corners
  8. Apply a black creme liner into the upper lash line and create a cat-eye. Create a fairly thick line. Bring the same liner down and underneath the lower lashes before blending the dark gray shadow over both lines to smudge it slightly.
  9. Apply a nude or white liner on the bottom waterline.
  10. Use a shadow or brow pencil to fill in your brows. Keep them quite natural looking since your eyes are powerful.
  11. Apply some super-winged lashes. (Don't put them on  right away! Be sure the glue is tacky before placing them on your lashes. )
  12. Rhinestones. If your rhinestones aren't pre-sticky, just bad a bit of eyelash glue on them and wait for it to get tacky before putting them on your flawless face. I used 5 small rhinestones per eye.
Lips:
  1. Luckily, lips are super easy for this look! First, apply a light purple stain or a light coat of purple lipstick.
  2. Dab a nude, sparkly, or sparkly nude lipgloss over the purple et voila! C'est fini !

I hope you liked this look. Send me pictures if you decide to recreate it via twitter, email or in the comments!

Toodles my minions.
